Myanmar Military Kill an Innocent Rohingya in Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan state- On 4th May 2014, Military belong to battalion 354 based at Maungdaw High School arrested an innocent Rohingya under a false accusation of possessing an illegal pistol. They brutally beat him up until 2AM on 5th May 2014. Consequently, he died at 3AM on 6th April 2014.

“On 4th May 2014, Enose (son of) Baitta @Hasjim, a local of the village of Myoma Kayintan (Shidda Fara) in Maungdaw township, was arrested by military belong to battalion 354 based at the High School in the same village. He was arrested under an arbitrary accusation of illegally possessing a pistol imported from Bangladesh.
They brutally beat and tortured him until 2AM on 5th April 2014. Consequently, his head got broken, his chest became swollen and he was unable to move. As he became critical, he was transferred to Maungdaw Police. There, in Police custody, Police also tortured him. Police handed him over to his family around 4PM on 5th May 2014 since the Police realized that he was going to die.
Therefore, as a result, he passed away at his home at around 3AM on 6th May 2014. Post-mortem was done in Maungdaw hospital afterwards. However, Military found no proof that he had possessed a pistol” said a local of the village.

“The previous commander of the battalion was transferred to somewhere else. Newly posted Second-in-Command is a Major. We don’t know his name yet. As soon as he arrived, he started killing Rohingyas. In the past as well, Military killed many innocent Rohingyas arbitrarily and the concerned authority took out their body parts through post-mortem” he continued.
