Compilation of Reports on Crimes against Rohingya in Arakan

Aftermaths of Rohingya Homes in Duchiradan after it had been burned down, looted and vandalized by Government Forces and Rakhine (Magh) Terrorists 
1-     British Delegation Blocked from Visiting Duchiradan
On 30th April 2014, a delegation led by British Ambassador arrived at the violence-hit village, Duchiradan (Kilaidaung), in southern Maungdaw, to observe the latest situation in the village. However, Police blocked them from going inside the village. Instead, Police took them to their station. Therefore, they were unable to see the latest condition of Rohingyas victimized by government sponsored violence in January 2014. (Report by CR MYARF)

2-     Hlun Htein Arrest a Rohingya and Squeeze Money from Him
There is a Hlun Htein (Security Force) check-post at the bridge of Hinthara (Hossara), Zawmadat village tract, southern Maungdaw. Around 7:30PM on 29th April 2014, five Hlun Hteins (Security Force) from the check-post entered the village of Hinthara and beat up every Rohingya before their sights. However, Rohingyas didn’t respond but kept patient lest there would be another violence like it happened in Duchiradan (Kilaidaung) in January 2014.
Afterwards, they raided the home of Mv Majiullah (son of) Iman Hussein (of Age 39). They arrested him under the accusation of illegally cutting woods from forest. They seized the woods gathered at his home and also detained him in their custody, where he was severely beaten up. Around 2AM on 30th April 2014, having extorted Kyat 150,000, they released him around 2AM on 30th April 2014.
The woods seized had not been illegally gathered from the forests but he bought them to repair his house. (Report by CR MYARF)

3-     Military Torture Internally Displaced Rohingyas
Second in Command of Military Battalion 354 at the village of Bawdupha in Sittwe (Akyab) Township bullies and tortures internally displaced Rohingyas of the camps at the village. He’s security in charge of the region. Rohingya people are struggling to survive. On the other hand, he extorts money from the people by abusing his power. It has been already two months under his oppressive rule.
He harasses people that come out early morning to sell vegetables and for daily struggles. If he finds Rohingya girls, he bodily harasses them and sometimes, also rapes them. A woman from the above-mentioned camps on the condition anonymity said that she was raped by 2-IC on 28th April 2014. Around 11AM on 29th April 2014, he arbitrarily detained two Rohingya trishaw drivers, Mohammed Zakir (son of) Khandu Ishaque and Laalu (son of) Laal Boda, and severely tortured them. Besides, he extorted Kyat 10,000 for their releases.
People are worried that if he continues committing atrocities, there will be unrests in the region. Therefore, they request the government of Myanmar to take necessary actions against the officer. (Report by Husnara Bibi, Sallam Oic Group)

4-     Rakhine Govt Threaten Rohingyas to Accept ‘Bengali’ Classification


On 28th April 2014, around 100 officials from Rakhine state government arrived at the School of Pi-Payein village in Mrauk-U (Fatthar Killa) township. They summoned five Rohingyas each from Rohingya villages in the township. They said “you can’t take part in the Census Enumeration that will start on 5th May 2014 if you claim ‘Rohingya.’ To be able to take part in the census, you must abandon your claim of being ‘Rohingya’ and either accept ‘Bengali’ Classification or keep the option BLANK. This is our final warning to you.” (Report by Kasim)
