Myanmar Military Severely Beat Two Rohingya Passers-By

Maungdaw, Arakan- A Myanmar army severely beat two Rohingya passers-by at the village of Ye-Dwin-Byin (Kowar Bil) under Taung Pyo sub-township in northern Maungdaw on 1st May 2014. The Rohingyas were tortured for no reasons.

“Noor Hashim (son of) Hussein Ahmed (of Age 30) and Nurul Hayat (son of) Mohammed Shafi (of Age 27) are local Rohingyas of south-hamlet of Zeebyin Chaung (Zeyaung Khali) village under Taung Pyo sub-township in northern Maungdaw.
Around 12:45PM on 1st May 2014, they (the two Rohingyas) were their way back home from the market at the village of Ngakura (Nagpura). Meanwhile, an army belong to a patrolling unit of infantry battalion 535 (in northern Maungdaw) stopped them in Ye Dwin Pyin (Kowar bil) village and asked them of a few things.
He suddenly went savage and started brutally beating up the two Rohingyas. Eventually, he released them after extorting two packets of cigarettes” said an eye-witness to the incident.
“It was happening right before our eyes. But we are helpless and unable to prevent the military personnel because of the fear that taking advantage of this, they would trigger another round of violence against as it happened in Duchiradan (Kilaidaung) in January 2014.

The infantry battalion consists of 11 Military arrived and stationed at the village of Ye Dwin Pyin at 9:00AM yesterday. As soon as they arrived, they started torturing people” he added.
